Common questions about firmware downloads and installations

After you have downloaded a firmware from this website, please follow the instructions below:

  1. Make sure you have the latest version of Apple iTunes (or Finder on macOS Catalina+) installed.
  2. Open iTunes/Finder on your PC or Mac.
  3. Connect your Apple device with a data cable.
  4. Backup your device in case something goes wrong.
  5. Hold "Shift" (Windows) or "Option/Alt" (Mac) and click on "Update" or "Restore".
  6. Browse and select the .ipsw file you downloaded.
  7. Wait until the installation is complete.

Due to security concerns, this is not possible. Please download the firmware to your computer and install using iTunes or Finder.

Model number is used to identify an Apple device. It starts with the letter "A" followed by 4 digits (e.g., A1905) and can be found on the back of the device.

For some devices, you can find it in Settings → General → About.

Apple has disabled verification for some firmware versions with known security exploits. Downgrades for some devices have also been disabled.

If you've confirmed that your device and firmware are not blocked, follow the instructions in this Apple support article.

When a firmware is "signed" by Apple, it means Apple's servers will verify and allow the installation. You can only restore/update to signed firmware versions.

Unsigned firmware can still be downloaded for archival purposes, but cannot be installed via iTunes/Finder.
